I think it has died once or twice but no more, it just runs like a 72 plymoth for about 2 seconds and then runs fine. I am afraid it is a sign of fuel filter or fuel pump problems to come. I am also afraid it is doing damage.

Thanks in advance

Are there any other issues with the car like poor performance or hesitation on accelaration? I would suspect a fuel pressure regulator going bad if there are other problems. A clogged fuel filter is a possibility and since it is the cheapest thing to replace that is where I would start.

This happens to me every once and a while too. It's almost as if I'm not holding the key in the START position long enough; like I let go of the key just as it starts, then it doesn't know if it should start or shut down. Sometimes if it does this and you give it a little gas (much like its carborated), then it'll idle normally.
