ABS Light on and Bad Shifting Trans

So a very odd problem with my 96 blazer. Here is what happens... Start out the ABS light turns on, the speedometer stays at 0 (even though the car is moving). Eventually (around 5000RPM) it will shift into second gear, then the speedometer will start working again. I have a OBD-II scanner and I hooked it up and drove around and the ECU correctly reports the speed. When I slow down it appears I do not get any transmission assist, instead it just seems to go into neutral. When I step on the gas again it seems to take a few seconds to find either 1st or 2nd gear. No trouble codes are stored. Any ideas on where to start.

check your VSS and its wiring harness.

I thought this at first as well... but when I hook up directly to the ECU VIA an OBD-II scan tool and monitor the value, it is reporting the correct speed even though the dash gage doesn't seem to show it correctly.
