i locked the doors. in the morning i came out and the pass. door was unlocked and all windows were in tact. did someone use a slim jim to unlock my door? is there a way to prevent that from happening again? they just took my head unit and backpack from the rear trunk. inside the backpack was my laptop and notebooks! nothing else from the car was stolen.. stuff under the hood wasn't messed with. i filed a police report. this sucks. when i install a new stereo, i'm thinking of welding or bolting the stereo down to the frame inside.. is that a good idea? i need to start using the club again.. i don't want to be left carless if someone could hotwire it.

I think you should know that hondas are easily broken into even if you have your doors locked. Accords are the first most broken into car in America and I think civic comes next so yes the rex falls under civic.

civics are easy to brake into. I had to brake into mine when i lost my key and the only other spare was in the glove box. I used a coat hanger and stuck it down the side and lifted up on the locking bars.
So the best thing to do would be get an alarm system, a loud one. Because when the door is opened the alarm will go off.
That was one good thing about my 240sx, the locking bars went from side to side so it made it alot harder to brake into, unless they bashed out a window.

if u use the club u will be carless anyways... all they do is cut the steering wheel and pull the club off, hell, we did it in autoshop one day cuz we were bored haha

What about spot welding a peice of sheet metal over the locking assemblies inside the door, as to prevent a slim-jim from being able to even come in contact with the locks?

it takes only about 20 secounds to break into a civic...trust me...there is a simple way that seems so stupid to be true....i'd post it but i dont really think telling everyone how would be a good idea...

ya i know a pretty quick way from when i worked at an auto auction. it was so damn easy i could be in a car(honda) and have it running in about 45 seconds with no keys. The way i got in was pretty brutal but it worked with no broken glass or anything else. As far as starting the car ANYONE who has worked on an ignition in a honda will know how to do it. get an alarm with the option that disables the ignition system.
maybe bolt the stereo in but dont weld it. mine was bolted in on the back.
Also like phatcx said clubs are useless. a better option is the clutch lock which still isnt great but better then the club. u can cut through a steering wheel in about 30 sec with a good hacksaw.

my car got broken into two weeks ago... on my driveway! somebody went and pried open my rear right window and then broke the hinge that makes it pop open and then they went and ripped it out of that one window molding thing closer to the door. these people then went and unbolted my subs from my false floor and unbolted my amp from the false floor and proceeded to steal my headunit and headunit harness. they left all the wires that they didn't need in my car like the honda-to-aftermarket-stereo harness and the amp-to-subs wires.
i called the cops the next morning and they told me it was all done in less than 3 minutes. buttt.... these stealers were dumb and left fingerprints on my window when they pulled it off and the cop got fingerprints and it's going to be a matter of 2 months until i find out who did it. sucks!

getting your car broken into is the worst feeling. i am afraid to put anythinig of vaule in my crx. as soon as i do, it will be broken into. my wife just got lojack on her evo and i think i will do the same but if the car is not moved, i dont think lojack will matter. as everone has said, getting into a honda and taking what you want is pretty easy. ive heard of alarms that are put into your car and the horn is in the car. when the theif breaks in, it is so loud in the car that they dont want to fuck with it. has anyone heard of sometinh like this? it might be something to think about. (by the way, after driving my wifes EVO, i fell in love with turbo)

I'm no car thief, but it's easy as hell to break into our cars using a coathanger (or slimjim). Takes me maybe a minute to unlock a door like that.
Can't use a slimjim on my car anymore though (or punch the locks out). I put the rear door-handles from a sedan in my doors (no keyhole), and removed the lock pushrods. So now, they have to break a window to get in.

great links. i'm thinking of slim-jim proofing my car now.
i know firsthand how easy it is to break into my car.
first of all, i had my radio stolen when i went to school in new orleans. i have zero anti-theft devices as i didn't think i had anything worth anyone's effort to try and steal. later on i got brave and put some 6x9's in small trapezoid boxes in the back. some guy BROKE MY WINDOW and took my stereo. he broke the wire harness as he was taking it, so the joke's on him, unless he was only going to use it on three speakers. he didn't steal my 6x9's and their boxes which were worth twice as much as the radio and weren't bolted to anything. strange.
secondly, i locked my keys in my car in front of a bar in slidell, LA. a friend of a friend of a friend of mine happened to have loaned a friend of a friend of mine his slim jim. we used the slim jim to easily pop my driver's side lock. my passenger side is stubborn and won't unlock easily with the key much less the slim jim.
these days i keep my 10" sub and amp under the enclosure in the hatchback... and also my car (crx) still looks like a piece of crap dispite the improvements i've made, so there's still that as a deterrant.
maybe next year i'll get some body work, paint job, and alarm installed all in one swing...

yo bionictony, you can get alarm remotes pretty much anywhere like circuit city or pep boys or something. from what i heard you just have to sort of "learn" the remote the button functions.
a few days ago they caught a car stereo thief in my hometown of macungie! supposedly this guy stole a lot of stereos in my area and i hope that he stole mine too so i can go and press charges on his asssssss. oh well, i better not get my hopes up too high.
one more thing on this post..... i'm thinking of getting an alarm for my car. what's a good place to get one or what is a good brand. i just want to get something that has ignition kill, shock sensor, voltage sensor, hook up to my headlights/corner lights for ease of locating in a parking lot, and something that might possibly have like a door handle alarm or an interior motion sensor or something.

well the way my alarm is , is like u said when my alarm is on it shuts off the fuel to the engine not allowing it to start , and if you have high quality stuff in your vehicle then bolt it down and take pictures of it bolted down so that the cops can look and you have proof everything was secured , or buy insurance for it , either way make sure ur insurance will cover anything that goes missing , and who cares if it does if you have insurance u will get it back again

damm streight .as long as you have a good insurance (full coverage)or if you just want the regular insurance ,you can pay a little more and have the insurance pay for evrything that you bought like head unit, subs, wheels, anything .but just remember to take pictures and save all the recipts ,and dont forget the insurence will only cover what is bolted down.i recomend a good alarm and an auto-lock club the one that goes down on the brake pedal.

Luckly I haven't had anyone break into my rex yet. But I have had my truck broken into 3 times so I know the feeling. Far as stealing the car, I'm going to reroute my wiring harness to the ECU, gut the dash glovebox and put it in there. Then just take it with me all the time like I do my stereo. Least that's the plan, haven't heard of anyone saying it wouldn't work.
I already have an alarm w/kill switch, but I know that won't stop them.

Apparently you have never seen one of these there is no way to put a steering wheel on with out the adapter plate that gets taken off with the steering wheel. Bring a wheel its not going to help.

I was looking at that in a jegs catalog yesterday, I was wondering if it'd fit a Civic. I saw a nice chain steering wheel, then I'd just need some dingle balls for the edges of my headliner.

Welding, bolting, or in some way securing your head unit to your car in a way to deter theft is a very VERY bad idea. I had my head unit in my 65 Mustang stolen twice. I got fed up and bolted the head unit to the firewall in the back. The third time they tried to steal my unit hurt like no other time I've had my car broken into. They fuc*** up my dash all to hell trying to pry the stereo out. They didn't get the stereo out, but took the faceplate and left me with a repair job that could have bought 3 new stereos. So, if they break in, might as well let them take it. Believe me, it will cost less.
P.S. The console in a 65 mustang is metal. So, it's not a matter of replacing plastic pieces. Still, replacing console parts it a bigger pain than keeping the stereo imo. It just never seems to fit right after the fact. Well, they always seem to break the console no matter what, so ignore everything I just said :) When my jeep got broken into, they just ripped the console off.
All car thieves should be dipped in hot tar feet first.

how long does it take to put the wheel back on?
Just a few seconds insert key unlock, turn off cap, turn on wheel, lock again.
what do u do when u goto the mall? carry it around with u?
yes or put it in the hatch out of site, you could leave it on the seat really because the only way to get the cap off is to break the pins off inside that hold the wheel on. So if they broke that off they still could not drive it.
