I have a 92 Wrangler and the Maint. Required light just came on. It's got way over 82,500 miles which is when it's supposed to go on. But dowesnt' have twice that much so I don't know why it went on. Anyway, does anyone know if I can reset this myself or do I have to bring it in somewhere? Please advise.

Service required light? I have a 95 with 125k miles on it, and I have never had that light. I think you have a check engine light. Go to Autozone and ask them to check the engine codes. That will tell you if the jeep has a problem. Otherwise, you can take the neg terminal off the battery and then hook it back up, that should turn the light off.

Does your Jeep suck the 420? Great info for this guy. Also, you can reset the light without a tool by taking off the cover to the PCM which is aft of the battery -- after removing cover, remove and insert the three connectors to the PCM. In my opinion, this is good for the contacts... Kevin

I had a 89 4.2L and had a light come on at around 80k. I took it to a dealer and asked how to fix it. A mech told me it was a timer box that sets off the light. Replace box or unplug it. I had just had servicing done and knew nothing was wrong.
On my 89 there was a gray box about the size of your fist or slightly smaller, right by the gas pedal on the firewall. Its kinda clear and you can see the gears inside it. I unclipped plug to the box and the light went out. IT is just and idiot timer that runs when the vehicle is on and sets off the light.
It may or may not be for an emission light but can't remember if it was.
