Fuel pump rewire question

I'm rewiring the fuel pump and following the VFAQ. I'm about ready to cut the lines on the original plug to the fuel pump but the VFAQ says there are only two lines (black-ground, and blue-power) but my fuel pump had 5. I see the black and blue lines but then there are 3 others.

I want to make sure I don't blow anything up so do I just work with the black and blue lines and ignore the other 3?

I deviated a little from the directions also and I want some feedback. When I ran the new 10 gauge wire for the ground, I attached the grounded end to the screw holding the bottom of the seatbelt to the frame. Is that acceptable. I figure it will work the same as putting in a bolt and running it to that as the VFAQ says.

I'm pretty pumped because I'm putting in a EVO3 16g tomorrow and I'm doing all I can to get ready for it  . I'm going to only boost it to 12 psi because I'm still on stock exhast, injectors and pump, but now I have some room to grow.

Thanks for your help!

Congrats on the install coming up! I personaly havn't replaced or rewired my fuel pump yet, so i can't give you any specifics on that. but i can tell you the the GSX and the GST fuel pump harness are diffrent. By reading AF's GST-GSX conversion you can see some pictures of the wiring harness and I beleave a wireing diagram.

As for the re-wire in general you will want the shortest most reliable ground possable. That connection may cirtanly be addiquit, but keep that in mind. Forced Performance & Extream Motarsports both have 40amp fusebox fuel pump rewire kits to help supply the steady 13.5-14 volts to your fuel pump. Just a heads up.

Thanks scottsee. I'm excited for the install tomorrow. I bought all the parts from Radioshack and so far it's been a piece of cake. Getting through the firewall was the trickiest part so far. And figuring out how to solder. Apparently, I suck at it.

It looks like I just have to deal with the blue and black wires. Can anyone with AWD that has done the rewire confirm this?

Scottsee mentiones a 40amp fusebox but I'm using a 30. I think I read in one of Kevin's posts that the Supra pulls a max of 21 so 30 should be more than enough. I'm at the point where I can easily change this so if I'm wrong, let me know.

Thanks for you help!

All the Aftermarket Fuel Pump Rewire kits use 40amp fuses you can wire into your fuese box under the hood of your car. I searched around, and for the life of me I can't reamber the Vender Website that shows how to do that.

I think after reading that, your question will be answered.

It seems from the article that I just need to deal with the blue and black wires. Blue is the main power, which is what I'm rewiring and black is ground for main power. Seems simple enough. Thanks a bunch. Time to get back into it.

Oh, by the way. What fuel pump are you rewireing? Stock or aftermarket?

stock

how are you willing to deal with fuel cut when you hit 2.55 g/rev? Your stock Pump will baaaarly support 40lb/min rewired. and your stock injectors will max out at 100% IDC @ 33.4lb/min

That evo16g flows upwards of 35+

A neat idea also is to put a switch on the ground wire. It's just a little extra security if you leave your car unattended for awhile. Plus, IMHO, its cool to say that you have a kill switch...

At this point, I'm not looking to run too much boost. I needed to replace the turbo so I am going for the future benefit. The supporting mods will come with time but at this point, I'm looking to run no higher than 12 psi (which, from what I've read, should put me at or slightly above stock hp). I read a previous thread about it being safe to run 12 psi on the evo16g if you don't have the supporting mods.

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=393458&highlight=16g+psi

In that thread Kevin talks about limitations with fuel and an evo16g. If I am incorrect about my car being able to handle the turbo with my level of modification, please let me know. The reason this whole project started is because I want to tune up the car and make it more reliable with the ability to expand in the future.

I made sure to get the flapper modified and I'm going to spend tomorrow porting out the O2 housing to fight boost creep. Since I'm on stock exhaust, I don't imagine it will be as big of a problem but I don't want to take any chances.

you can go as high as 17psi on an evo16g without a problem. thats what i set a friends at, he had no problem tearing the shit out of his car for the 3 weeks he had it on before i made him buy an safc2

The other wires at the pump assembly are for the low level light and fuel level guage. I don't remember what it looked like on the 2g when I did it like 5 years ago, but on the EVO there were only 2 wire that were larger than the other very small ones. The small ones are obviously just senders, and the larger ones are the pump. I would expect the 2g to be similar.

Thanks guys. The link scottsee sent cleared a lot of confusion and with your follow up posts, I'm confident I'm going to do it right.

I wish I could just get a new pump boostedspyder. I spent about $800 getting a turbo though and my wallet is crying. I will eventually happen, but I want to make sure to get a tuning device first (and soon) to do it right.

Your comment about spending too much on your spyder gave me a chuckle. I just tallied the damages and in total, I've spend more on fixing/modding than my car. If thats not true love...
