there was recently a thread called 427 sohc vs. 426 hemi, but i could not reply because it was closed, so this is my opinion. ofcourse the 427 SOHC would wip the 426 hemi's ass badly it had 615 horses @7000 rpm with a single 4-barrel and 657 @ 7500 rpm with dual carbs. and the 426 has 425 horses @5000rpm and 490 pounds of torque @4000rpm. so theres no match there!!. BUT in 1964 chrysler was working on a 426 DOHC HEMI!! to counter ford's 427 but NHRA rules ruled the 427 out because it was to strong and bla bla bla. so chrysler stopped because there was no point if they coudnt compete against each other. they only got to make 2 DOHC hemi's ,non of them ever ran on there own power, just by a battery motor to check valve timing , it still had a couple months before it could run but just imagine if they started to produce those bad boys!! then i think the 427 would be in the dust!!! but i guess we will never know for sure, but im on the hemi's side. oh and one more thing one of those hemi's was destroyed and the other is in the kansas area and im not sure if it runs.
