97 altima idles low and stalls

My 97 altima has recently started fine, then after stop and go, or being in park and idleing for a few minutes it will idle around 500 dip a little then go up to about 800 (low) then sometimes stall, but when i get going passed 2nd gear it runs fine, and after a week of this, it has started to slightly hesitate (hardley ever) while traveling fast. I was thinking it was a fuel filter, but i read today that it might be a distributer. Any help would be great.

My car (94 altima gxe) had a problem similar to this, it would stutter and then die, it would allway start up until one day when it wouldnt start again. What Happened was that there was an oil leak in the distributor and the oil plugged up the hollifax(Small silver ring with tons of little holes on the outer edge) i also had to replace one of my injectors. I dont know if this is the same problem with your car but i hope that it helps

wow I hope you get a response because I'm having the same exact trouble. It idles horrible, you can watch the rpms go up and down up and down. The only way to preven it from doing that while I'm at a stoplight or in park is to turn my AC on...hopefully I can figure this out soon because it's annoying.

I just found this page which mentions rough idling. It says it can be caused in the 95-97 models by clogged spark plug vent holes. I'll check and see if it will perform better after that.

Sounds like the throttle position sensor (TPS). There's a couple threads about this problem already, you can use the search at the top of the thread list to find them. Hope this helps.
