1985 Iroc

I'm a muscle car guy that really missed the boat. If I had been into muscle cars in high school instead of ricers I'd probably still own a running car for one thing... Two foreign cars, one blown ECU and about 10 grand down the tubes later, I'm now an expecting dad with marginal employment and no transportation (of my own. My wife owns our truck). I used to have dreams of owning some old chevy muscle like a camaro or a nova, from back men were men and engines were measured in inches. None of this "Gay And The Curious", Rice-o-Roni Honda crap all the kids drive now. But my budget will not permit. So I came to the realization that someday I may still be able to own that 69 Camaro, but I'll have to take some baby steps to get there. Why not get a camaro from the year I was born? The 1985 Camaro IROC-Z was unleashed on the world late in 1984; as was I. So why not start there? Still has all the camaro fun but at a fraction of the price.
Is anyone selling an 85 IROC (Preferrably manual) for around a grand? Don't care if it runs. Let me know. I'm in the Phoenix AZ area.
Actually I'll take any Camaro with a V8 as long as it's not fuel injected. I think they switched after 86.

No, the IROC-Z wasn't avialable until early 1985. I ordered mine in Feb 85, as soon as they were avialable, and didn't get it until May 14th 1985 (ordering was the only way to get one in the first half of 85).
There were very few manual IROC's in 85 since everyone wanted the new TPI engine with an amazing 215hp...the manual's of the time couldn't handle the torque of those engines.
Not fuel injected? That was the only way to get any real power...and 1987 was the last year you could get a carbed V8.

TPI was introduced in 1985... If you want a carb'd 1985 IROC 5-speed, it may be hard to find, but they offered the L69 H.O motor with 4-barrel carb and 5-speed tranny, with 3.42 or 3.73 optioned posi rear end. Now that is a sweet car if you can find one....and will be worth quite a bit of $$$ in a few years.

and another thing.... stay away from the 1986 IROCs. They were "de-tuned" with a smaller cam, and also the 86s are a dime a dozen being the most produced IROC..... An 85 IROC is a good choice.

so 85 was a rarer year or ?? i got an 85 I-ROC with a 350 punched out to a 355 carb out of a 78 camaro the engine was fully rebuilt everything new except the block and my cars in great shape

Not so much rare as more unique. It had the "bigger" cam that helped it produce 215 hp, it had the slower 870 ECM, which was used in 1985 only and only in the TPI engines in the Corvette, Camaro and Firebirds.
There were less ofthem made in 85 becausethey were not avialable till much later in the model year than normal (normally the 85's would be avialable in sept-oct 1984) and GM couldn't produce the IROC's fast enough due to under-estimating the number they would sell that year so, they didn't have enough parts stocked.

Hey Kid, nice ride but you need to get your rims to match :ylsuper: :2cents:

From the looks of it, those rims have slicks on them so the matching stocker rims probably have street tires on them, waiting in the garage after a few e.t. times get posted.

wright ur right those are my slick rims i got I-ROC rims for the back too its just they were waiting at home while i was having some fun at the track
i was thinking about getting drag rims for the front too only those ones are pretty damn pricey there weld racing rims crazy light with out the tire u can pick it up with like one finger but thanks for saying my cars sweet i come from a smaller town 40000 to 50000 ppl so everyone knows who i am now cuz of it lol im sure its the same for all u guys too that are still in high school
