die out

I have a 2000 ford escort zx2...While my car is in park or is at a stop light my car will jerk for about 10 seconds then die...While I am accelerating, I have no problem at all...Took my car to AutoZone and the code came back P0171 oxygen sensor...Also, my car sounds like air is escaping...Please respond in laymen terms because I try to understand so mechanics don't try to take advantage of me.

replace the o2 sensor would be my first move and the air excaping sounds like a vacume line. check all your lines and make sure their conected tight
