whats the diff...?

Hey guys,

im new here and and dont have lots of time to do research at the moment. If u cant tell im not a big chevy guy but recently i was given a fairly modded 305, (cam, head work, and bored 30 over... oh and custom jets in the carb.), now heres my question can i stick a 350 crank and rods in this engine and not hurt anything..i.e. the valves or the heads.

Yes, the 305 and 350 crank and rods are the same dimensions and will fit right in.

Why do you want to make the swap?
Most (not all) 350 crank and rods are no different from the 305 parts, so it only makes sense if you have mangled the original parts.

If you have scored a steel crank and good strong rods, you can beef up the bottom end, but chances are the 305 will not over burden the stock parts, (unless you plan to rev it to the moon. )

The displacement will remain the same 305 ci after the swap.

so basically what ur saying is the only difference between the 305 and 350 is the bore of the cylinder. what rods could i put in to increase the displacement. im a poor navy guy so i do what i can with what i have.
oh and i wouldnt go past 6k on the tach so i dont have to remember too many redlines lol

The ONLY factors that influence displacement are the bore and stroke. Changing rods will have no effect on displacement.
If you WERE to use 350 rotating parts with the 305 pistons, rebalancing is a MUST. While the casting numbers for 305 and 350 cranks are the same, there are subtle differences, and they are not interchangeable without balancing.
If you really want more engine, the logical choice is to simply upgrade to 350 or even better, 383 ("stroker").
