1997 Sentra GXE Check engine light

My friend has a 97 Sentra GXE 1.6. Is there any way to turn the SES light off other then with a scanner? I have access to a scan tool but he has to drive 45mins to my house every time so that i can reset it. Just wanted to know if there was any other way to reset the light. I tried pulling the ecm fuse but that did nothing. It comes on because of an EGR malfuction(Code=PO400) but he does not want to fix it right now. Any help/segestions would be appriciated.

Howabout an autozone near by? They have scanners they use for free. Also you can rent one from them. Or if he is going to ignore it, just put tape over the light.

neither of us live near an autozone. as i said i have access to a scan tool but its a pain in the ass for him to drive 45mins to my house just to reset the light. i reset it again today. you can't just ignore the light. his was on for a month prior to today and it put the car in loop mode which will hapen if you just ignore the light. loop mode causes the car to lose performance which is why i reset it today. all i want to know is there any way to reset the light without a scan tool, something he can do himself.

try disconnecting the battery. if that doesnt work, then nothing will
i dont know why you even want to turn it off...it will keep popping on again until you fix the issue. and with a CE light why would you care about abusing your car anyways? just calm down and fix the problem, then go back to racing or whatever you need the power for

:banghead: lets get this straight, Its not my car! im just trying to help my friend out. code that comes up is PO400 which is EGR malfuction. When i replace his cat i'll pull the egr and see if its clogged. And buy the way the car is stock and he does not race. he needs the light off because with the engine in loop mode he has no power and when he took a high speed onramp,he almost got run over.

Right, got that. But as I said, if he can afford the temporary lay out of cash, autozone rents out scan tools so he can reset it himself. It is a 1 time trip till he fixes it, then he can return it.

whats the point if he can use that cash toward a new EGR? Sucks that you can't just pull a fuse of something like that to reset the SES, like my jimmy. Anyway I thank everyone for the comments.

He can still use the money to fix the egr. It is a deposit. When he returns the tool, he gets all the money back.
