low idle

Hi all,

I have an 85 Ford F150 4.9l 4sp manual. The thing won't idle above 300 rpm. You try to give it gas and it is very slow to respond. I did a compression test and got a reading of 120psi on all 6 cylrs. I'm thinking that there may be a problem with the cam timing such as it jumping a tooth or a plugged exhaust. Any Ideas? Thanxs

What do you mean wont idle above 300. When you give it the gas does it slowly increase the rpms? Timing would show up in backfiring thru the exhaust or intake. Try some carb/injector cleaner first.
