http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/89m-heist-thieves-tunnel-into-bank/2005/08/09/1123353286879.html
the little research i did on the web, this seems like the biggest bank heist in history. i'm sure WAY back in the day, before electricity and junk, there was some heist where the robbers stole like 10 grand, which was a lot back then (im talking like when the pilgrims came over and shit) i really have no clue though

Thats prolly $89 million australian dollars since its a AU site. In my article its US dollars
I dont think its the biggest heist in history, cause all the articles say its the biggest bank heist ever in Brazil, they dont say in the world. So i'm thinking there must of bin a bigger one
But $70 million got damn!! Thats like movie shit. And they got away eaaasy, they didnt even discover the vault was broken into until the monday morning

yeah must be Australian dollars.
what i find totally outrageous, is the fact they were able to do it by digging a 200 meter tunnel directly under the vault. none of this high tech, send a virus to the bank, type shit you see in hollywood.

They are fucking idiots stealing it as currency rather than gold, drugs or some other form. They will destabalise the economy redistributing that much wealth. That's IF they try to run (they would have to be smart to do that).

lol i dont think they care about destabalizing the economy... they just care about getting rich. They're prolly in a different country by now anyway, so the cash will be distributed around the world and probably help other countries economy

I think it's wrong to be proud of these guys. Guess where that money is going to come from. The rest of the Brazil's population. That guy should spend time in jail instead of retiring in luxury.

i too agree that it is wrong in congratulating them. but i mean pulling off a heist like this with the primative techniques of tunneling under the bank is pretty impressive.

He's not taking it from the people, he's taking it from the government. The money in banks is insured.
The government steals enough money from the people, sometimes its time to take a little back. I think its impressive pulling off a heist this big. It doesnt harm anybody, no shots went off. Those are some lucky people that got away with it, they must be pretty smart to mastermind that shit

Yeah, well the government is not going to be like "Oh well, we scammed them enough, it's not a big deal". Instead they'll get the money back from the people somehow. And here's my point: This is a very small group of people that get the money, probalby less than 10. Compared that to the millions of Brazilians whose money was stolen.

My point is that I think stealing is wrong even though I do not have any strong religious convictions. But as you pointed out, some people who consider themselves "religious" or "saved" can justify any thing they want. It just seems a little hypocritical to me that's all.
