I usually don't race but this time I did. I drive an 05 Sunfire coupe, completely stock, it's only a few weeks old. I was on the on ramp getting on the highway and there was this dildo in an Eagle Talon, early 90's I think, and he was tailgating me, which I really hate more than anything. He couldn't pass because there was only one lane. Then as we got off the on-ramp and onto the highway he swerved around me into the next lane and floored it and passed me (I didn't floor it) and then swerved right back into my lane in front of me. I was moving about 100 km/h. So I get into the next lane and floor it and he does too, and slowly but surely I overtake him. After I had about two car lengths on him and I was moving about 140 km/h I shut it down (because if you get clocked up to 140km/h you only get a fine but above 140 you get your licence taken away). The moron in the Talon didn't shut it down, he kept going and passed me and gave me the finger. I just laughed and slowed down to normal highway speed.

That was really the first time I had a chance to see what the Ecotec could do vs another car and I'm not disappointed. I guess 150 lb/ft of torque on a 2600 lb car is nothing to scoff at.

I can't lie, i probably would have done the same thing, way to show the punk up... Have you ever thought about doing anything with your car to make it faster? The Ecotec is a decent base engine to start modding.

Yeah I'm probably gonna put in a cai and a better air filter. I don't want to spend too much money tho, I'm planning to buy a better car after I graduate next year if I get a good job.

In that case i would just save your money, unless you're putting the CAI on for gas mileage, cause that's all it would really be good for. Welcome to the board by the way.

That Eagle must've been beat because I seriously doubt any n/a sunfire can overtake a turboed dsm...

oh yeah, nice kill... I think

I dont think it was turboed. A turbo DSM would be satan against an Ecotec.

I had never been beaten by j-body with my n/a talon...but then again the engine wasn't "stock". Anyways I don't know where you live but since the story had km/h I'm assuming you're in Canada. So whoeer told you that going over 140km/h on the highway is a grounds for losing your license lied...I got a ticket for 146km/h, 341$ and 4 demerit points

Unless it was a turbo'd Ecotec. Those forged engine parts can take 650 horsepower turbo applications and run HARD and consistant without breaking down. The Ecotec is an AMAZING, and still far underrated, engine to upgrade with a turbo..Its just not as popular of a route to go.

(Would you upgrade a car with the reputation a Cavalier has, new engine or not?)

u think it was a turbo automatic? they run about a 15.9 , and ur car probably runs a mid 15. i kno ppl with ecotecs. one of my friends has a cavalier 4 dr auto and its not bad. then i met someone with ur car.. i was very impressed. i think u should keep this car and start modding.

nice kill. Just a suggestion, but why not go the route of an ebay intake and custom catback. Easy inexpensive mods to get started with, and you'll only be out ~$300

I say aim for a turbo...insane sleeper.. No one likes Sunfires, so when they get annihilated by one, itll just be even more salt in the wound.

I was thinking the exact same thing...somebody lied to you

If you don't know Ontario's system has a 12 demerit point system (9 if you only have your G2) you get 2 points for 16-30 over... and 4 points for 30-50 or something like that...

The other thing is if your car is a few weeks old why are you pushing it to its limits? its really not good for the car if it doesnt have very many k s and your racing it

actually there are 2 theories on how to brek-in a car. First one being to baby it and the second to drive it hard. I know on some of the 6s forums some were appraising the latter method giving 10whp more than those who baied their cars...but that could just be the engine or car itself.
Either way I did a variety of both, never launched or broke hard...just in between is where you need to adventure into every bit of rpm.
