I have a 01 GT Eclipse. I have noticed that when I am sitting there with the car started in neutral that there is a clicking noise coming from the engine. When ever I push in the clutch the noise stops. However as soon as I release the clutch it starts up again. Also the car had a CAI on before I bought it but the person put the stock intake back into the car. Could this have something to do with it. Any suggestions would be greatly appricated.

thats the Throw-out Bearing in the clutch. common problem with the 3G 5spd. it wont cause any damage.

oh, so that's what that was! hey it won't cause any damage, but could it possibly be damaged and cease to function?

Throw out bearing....
Description: The throw-out bearing, or clutch release bearing as it's sometimes called, is located between the clutch fork and the pressure plate fingers. The throw-out bearing only operates when the clutch pedal is depressed; the bearing is not designed for continuous use.
Purpose: When the driver steps on the clutch pedal, the throw-out bearing applies force to the fingers of the spinning pressure plate to release the clutch. When the clutch pedal is released, the bearing sits idle and does not contact the pressure plate fingers.

does that mean the clicking noise is caused by the bearing being a little loose and tapping the pressure plate fingers as the engine idles?

some people have replaced it while they were replacing their clutch. sometimes the sound has gone away, sometimes it was still there.

i'm thinking it could also happen w/ a warped pressure plate, cuz mine is definitely warped
