New Modification and a question....

Went out today and purchased a 160 T-stat and a Hypertech Hand Tuner. I set it all up and it seems to work even better, especially the shifting (Servo to come later). The engine also appears to be running much cooler (and better at the lower temp).
I went with a hand held as opposed to something like a Nelson as I wanted to be ale to make modifications as needed on the fly without doing the core exchange thing. (I'm sure the Nelson is a bit better tune)
I do have a questin: If I set this thing for 93 Octane, do I need to pump premium and if I program and pump regular, how much of a differance is there between the two octanes when using this thing? Any input on this part of reality would be greatly appreciated.

I honestly couldnt tell you. Im running 89 Nelson tune and my pickup hauls ass. Im thinking about trying nelson's 91 tune as 93 octane isnt readily available in the NW mostly 92. Allen said I would get (the 91 hot tune) it and he was right

If it is programmed for 93 oct and you put in 87 oct expect it to ping/knock under any and no load and wide open throttle. THe timing will be so far advanced you will more than likely see it. Some of the knock is a sound issue and some is a poor performance and can hurt the engine. If you knock enough you can burn a hole in pistons and valves. How does the song go, "You keep on knocking but you can't come in..." I went with the 87/89 tune and can install 93 oct when I want and get better mpg and performance when I want and never hear a knock at all.
If you start adding headers and other engine mods the hyper tune will not take advantage of the mods, and in most cases your engine mods will not be acknowledged by the hyper tune and be wasted. If you go to a custom tune all the items you do will be taken into account, temp, headers, intake, etc....

Yeah, since I don't want to pay for Premium, I reprogrammed it back to 87 octane, but left everything else the same. She still runs great and has plenty of power though. Thanks for the input!!!
