Hello everyone I'm new to 4 wheel disc brakes so I just bought a 99 with them and noticed that I get a lot more brake dust on the front like I did on my 93, do the front ones do most of the work on the 4 wheel disc brake system? Also my abs is acting up at slow speeds, I just about hit my boat twice pulling in my driveway, any advice? :eek7:

When you say your abs is acting up....when coming to a stop does happen after hitting a rough bump or spot on the road. and does the brake pedal kick back...if so my 2k silvy does the same thing. I try to avoid those bumps and ruff spots but if i can't this is what i do.....if i hit a ruff spot or bump while braking i let off the brake and reapply the brake again. its help thus far.....there is a recall out for abs brakes but it seems to only apply to those who live in the states listed. Unfortantly I don't live in any of those states. Here is link stating the recall. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=403797&highlight=recalls Hope this helps you.

Also, do keep in mind that the front disc brakes on the 99 - up 1500 are bigger than they were on all previous 1/2 ton chevrolets. Maybe that's why you're getting more dust?

PADS---PADS---PADS. The brake dust has to do with the composition of the pads. Cheaper (just like GM) quality and softer compound. If you went to a harder compound the dust would go away and pads would last longer, but you would lose a little stopping power. If you have ever noticed 03 and earlier f150's and expedtions are really bad about brake dust. I would just go get a harder compound pad

Ceramic pads came on most of the trucks since '99. Ceramic does not dust hardly at all, they are a harder compound and do grab better than metallic, and don't warp nearly half as much as metallic due to the ability to disipate heat faster. Installed ceramic pads on the front when I bought the truck with 41K and 1 week ago at 89K the pads are not warped and look like they have 2/3 of the pad left. Ceramic dust is almost white and metalic dust is black. Get ceramic, they are worth the money.

My rear disc brakes went out first on my 99 z-71. that was around 60k. i just put cross drilled and sloted rotors and ceramic pads on all four wheels and i have no complaints. the truck stops fast and my wheels stay clean
