Box under driver seat

I have a 2003 XL-7 that I just purchased and I notice there is a large electronics box under the driver's seat. I looked in the owner's manual and it doesn't say what it is. It has a knob on the front for sensitivity.???? Any idea what it is?

It is a weak 4" subwoofer box! It doesn't put out much more sound than the door speakers.
