Alternator Woes

I'm in the process of taking out my alternator in my 90 Limited. The cable leading to the battery has a philips screw that attaches to the alternator. I've stripped the head and could use some ideas to remedy the situation. The screw was quite soft, almost lead like. Glad it's summer time for this repair.

If you have a pair of needle nosed vise grips, they might do the trick.

Continue as far as you can with the removal and maybe you can get a better angle at it after you remove the alt. from the brackets. Maybe an easy-out would help. I'd just grind it off and then see if you can remove the remaining stud. If that failed, being soft as lead, drill it out and put it back in with a slightly oversized screw and some lock-tite.

Used a pair of vise grips and was able to remove the screw with not a lot of trouble. I replaced the philips head screw with a hex head bolt. I recommend that everyone replace this screw. Philips head screws/bolts are trouble waiting to happen.
