Hey I got a pretty good post for you guys. I don't think my check engine light works, so I'd like to conduct a test. What's a quick, harmless, and safe way to trigger a CEL ( that won't stay on forever either). Hahah, i knew you guys would like this.

You can't just unplug something and start it and get a cel, you have to get up to op temp and there are certain other requirement that need to be met (rpms and speed) I'd say fogure out something that wont have any ill effects (like egr or something) and run it for a few days, even then you can't be sure it's not working.

just unplug you TPS sensor or MASS air sensor they are right on top and will set off the light as soon as to unplug them

How about unplugging the BCS harness? That should give a CEL, shouldn't it?

Sure will, been their, done that. can even give you the MD# for the code it will through. why dont you just turn the car on and see if the CEL blinks when going through its test mode at startup??

Bingo . Didn't even think of that :eek7: . But yeah, that's the easiest way to see if your bulb still works.
