Gst Overheating

I just got a 97 gst. It was overheating so I replace the thermastat, the water pump, the radiator cap, and I check all the hoses and the radiator. But it still overheated. So I was sure it was the head. I took the head to a machine shop and resurfaced it. I also replace the head gasket but it still overheated. I have no clue what it could be. Is there anything I missed?

Do the fans come on? Is the radiator clogged? Is there a temp difference between the upper and lower hoses from the radiator?

The fans come on. I just remembered i took off the thermastat. so my car as no thermas. can that make overheat?

A missing thermostat should actually keep the car from warming up properly. Sounds like you should see if something is clogged like LandoAWD suggested.

Actually without a thermostat it allows the water/coolant to flow too fast through the radiator not allowing it to cool down enough returning hot coolant back into the engine hotter than it should be.....viscous circle kinda thing...
I had an f150 that I had put a cooler thermostat in and it allowed too much flow which caused it to overheat even more than before the change... I went to the next step up in temp range and problem was fixed.

I strongly disagree.

A missing thermostat will not allow the coolant to reach normal operating temperatures and the car will remail in "limp mode".

This is why thermostats are designed to "fail open" and not closed. A missing thermostat will also normally result in CEL P0125

"Excessive time to enter closed loop fuel control."

Here a couple threads on the issue:

There is also a difference in motors... in my f150 the fan is off the motor... in an eclipse it is an electric fan... I was just stating from my experience with a different type of engine.... my bad... I guess..

Thanks for the info. If anyone has more please share. I bought a new thermostat today. I hope thats the problem because I'm all out of ideas.

Just make sure you get all of the air out of the lines and you should be fine.

How do i get all the air out of the lines?

There's a bleeder below the thermostat, you'll have to unscrew that a bit to get the air out, it's kind of just like bleeding brakes.

Thanks, I'll check out that bleeder today.

Yesterday I turned on my car and when it started to overheat i notice white smoke coming from the valve cover. I turned my car off and took off the valve cover. Then I truned the car back on and then i saw white smoke coming from one of the intake valves.

Is it doing that because the engine is hot or is it because the head is still bad?

That's weird, normally white smoke is indicative of a bad HG, but you shouldn't be seeing if from the valve cover gasket. Did you happen to spill some antifreeze on the motor? It might be something you spilled burning off. Is there any white smoke coming out the exhaust?

It's most likely a head gasket as spyder said, but the reason you're seeing it through the valve covers is because it's venting through the crankcase.

The smoke was not coming from the valve cover gasket. It was coming from a vacuum line that gose from the valve cover to intake filter.

I replace the old HG with a new one and also the valve cover gasket too. So I don't think that could be the problem.

The block was rebuilt with everything new even new piston rings. So I don't think it could be the block, unless it was rebuilt wrong.
