All 'Scorts like this?..(AC query)

My 93 has NEVER had the ac touched..STILL works pretty good!(270k).
One thing I noticed is that when I hit the ac button and the fan..after a few seconds I get the cold air..sure.BUT what is weird..neat! Is that even when I turn the ac off..and just leave the fan on high..I still get the cold..cooling air.. for a bit..as it warms up.Sure it eventually gets warm..(Not that long!)But I find that in traffic I can just leave the fan on high..and switch the ac on and off.I can feel the compressor going on and off..and can still feel cold..cooling air blowing when it is off.I am surprised how long it takes for the air coming out of the vents to get warm with the compressor off.Must be something(0r something wrong?) with the venting.I dunno.I have tried this with several cars I have been lately.I turn off the ac comp(it is 90ish here) BLAST FURNACE! type of hot air out of the vents! immediately.I am guessing that in other "normal"..(hahha.). cars when you switch off the ac comp..the air flow/vent or something is closed/re-routed.

The AC in my 92 is the same way. I noticed it earlier today. I got in my car and it felt like it was about 120 degrees in there, so I turned on the air. After it cooled off, I rolled down the window and shut off the air. The air coming out of the vents seemed to stay cold for quite a while. It's got to be an Escort thing.

The air stays cool for a while after I shut it down in my 97 SPI sedan. The evaporater must be really cold to do this. Which is a good thing. I shut my air conditoner off when accelerating from a stop sign and going up hills. Better for the car and the gas mileage. It always stays cold until I get up to speed and then I turn it on again. I love this car.

Lucky bastards with, working A/C

that's what I was thinking, but get this...

I actually took the initiative recently (past 6 monthish) to bother to put on a new A/C compressor (well... That is to say that I switched it with a robbed compressor off a salvage rig. Dad owns a shop) and after a couple of hours of rooting around to get the bad one off, switch out the magnet and clutch from another one etc. I apparently had a lapse in paying attention to what I was doing and put the magnet on in the wrong position... So when I went to hook the wire harness back up it wasn't having it. I had to take it all back off and by this time I was a little perturbed and in a hurry, and when I put the bolt that holds the clutch on I apparently stripped it out and didn't even realize it. To make things even more infuriating, the clutch is only about 1mm too far away for the compressor to pull it in and compress the air. ONE MILLIMETER!!!

And now it's too damn hot to be fooling around with it. How's that for a paradox?

ouch! that sucks. I live in Canada and we cant get the gas for recharging now. Even if I did I'd have to buy a conversion kit. So I ripped it out instead, saved weight too. Now I have to use the old skool AC. Windows down and drive as fast as I can.
