Electronic or mechanical dash? What year? What happened when it quit working? I take it that your speedo is working. Older cars used a mechanical cable from the tranny to the speedo head in the dash. These used a gear in the speedo head to run the trip OD. I'm not sure what year Buick went to electronic speedos. See if you can answer some of the above questions.

It's a 1993 Buick Regal Custom. The speedometer is working. I think it's mechanical. It's not like what my dad's H2 has, a digital number. So probably mechanical? I think there might be a wrie that has come loose or something. It was my grandma's car, then my mom's. I only noticed it after I got my licenes. Anything else you need? Thanks Dan.

I sounds like there is something wrong in the speedo head. This requires pulling the speedo and checking out what's wrong. I got a Caravan that the trip OD did not work. I took it apart and found a pin that had slid out of place. I put it back and every thing worked. I wouldn't know until I take it apart and look at it.

91 Buick regal 3.8
Just finshed gruelling 4 hours removing dash and entire cluster to repair speedo /odmeter problems. neither worked. turns out there are 2 of 3 particular "plastic" gears that were cracked causing them to skip. i glued them both, but as a precaution i used a heat gun and put a heavy buildup of melted platic all around the wheels, inner and outer.
i got speedometer numbers rolling finally which never worked, but when i reset odom it will show 9900, or 8800. so screw it i dont want that, i just want my crusie to work lol. (i wanna mileage check i'll use speedo)
So sad to see so much crappy plastic in a vital area of car.
next putting all back together and see if she goes.
btw finding the sunken screw in the speaker's on top of dash was a bore. and have fun disconnecting cluster pwr cable too lol
on to to even greater things........keyless entry module solder job.
Great forum tho' couldn't have done it otherwise. Haynes can be pretty vague if your not stripping engine down ,,\,,jeez
