ok so my starter works but my car won't even try to turn over the starter just spins. After checking the flywheel we were able to hold the flywheel in place while manually turning the engine if anyone has any ideas on a quick fix to get it started so it can be moved about a mile I would greatly appreciate it cause it is stuck on the street at my friends house
thanks
Nic

if you have a manual transmission, just push start it. If not, your best bet is to call a tow truck and have it moved from there.

yeah it's auto so my dad and I towed it with his truck so it's fine now but if anyone has any sort of idea for a fix I'd love to hear it.
thanks

If the flywheel (its called a flexplate in an auto trans car) has all the gear teeth on it, chances are its the Bendix drive on your starter is broken, and is not engaging the flexplate.

Replace the starter with a rebuilt one. They are not very expensive and should fix the problem.

I just talked to my dad and I've been told that the bendix is fine the starter works. you can look though the slot for the timing and just watchthe flywheel spin away, but the engine doesn't turn. Any thought on possible crankshaft problems?

that's sounds serious, your flexplate sounds like it's disconnected itself. You'll need to pull the tranny to fix that.
