creaking, clunking noise when turning, HELP!

hey alls, i have a 93 4dr civic and when i turn to the right i hear this creaking, clunking noise, it seems to come from the right side, under the passenger's feet, and i can kinda feel it in my pedals. it also happens a little when turning to the left and sometimes when braking. i jacked the car up and took a look at the underside and couldn't find anything wrong. it has kyb agxs that i installed last year with neuspeed springs, dropped 3/4", didn't cut the bumpstops(installation didn't say to), when i go straight over speed bumps it is fine, no creaking. i pulled the power steering hoses, resevoir and oil cooler because my engine doesn't have the pump but i don't think that is the issue, when the car is jacked up and i turn the wheel back and forth it doesn't make any creaks. i am at a loss, i have no clue what the issue could be, if anybody has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

its a CV joint going out....only way to fix it is to replace the whole axle on the right side.

are you sure? i thought it would make a clicking noise and wouldn't it happen all the time? don't get me wrong, the cv joint boots are split and it very well could be them, but are the symptoms right? i just don't know. i hope it is the cv joint, i already know how to replace the axles. might as well do both, i might be able to do it this weekend or next. i heard napa has replacement axles with new boots if you turn in your old axles. has anyone used them or know where i can get some for around the same price (80ish each axle)? any help would be greatly appreciated.

does anybody else have any ideas on what the problem could be? it seems like it is the frame or something, i can feel it under my feet when i drive and so could my dad when he took a ride. anybody?!???

If they’re split that is the reason, and it will get worse. Replace them or you can seriously injure yourself or someone else

they are split, but not very bad, only an inch long, if that. i used to have an ex coupe and it had an axle break and the cv joints were ripped all the around, so i don't know. if the axles are bad and they are causing the noise, would they also cause a vibration in the pedals and on the floorboard? if not, could the bushings be a problem? i did put on kyb agx struts. still not sure what to do, can only really afford one fix, have to make sure it will work. thanks for all the input and keep it coming!

If the boots are split, then i can tell you w/o any doubt....not that i had any to start w/....that your CV joints are shot. You have to replace them and you said you already know how so it shouldn't be a problem.

It could be a number of things, without hearing its next to impossible to pin-point the source. I've never heard a CV joint creak, only clicking. I would start by checking the front suspension in general, tie rods, ball joints, control arm bushings, strut mounts, loose steering rack.

Did you loop the hoses on the steering rack together or at least cap them off? If not your rack could be junk.

well, me and my dad decided to take another look under the car, and he got down under the passenger side front tire and shook it and the lower arm moved around all crazy, so it looks like the lower arm bar bushing is crap, the driver side seemed better, so that is what it sounds like. looks like jackassi was right, as usual, lol. i didn't do anything about the steering rack, uh, openings, not yet anyway, what should i use to cap them, just some rubber caps from napa or something?

Edit* thought u said upper control arm. Anyways if it were me I would replace the arm.

For the steering rack you best off looping the opening together with a piece of hose. If you just want to cap them get so vacuum port covers from any parts store and use hose clamps. You dont want moisture getting in there.

i was just going to get a master kit from energy suspension and replace all the bushings at once, and some other stuff i need to do too. do i really need to replace the whole arm or will a new poly-urethane bushing do the trick? i need to replace my springs, cv joints and get brembo blanks anyway........

No you dont need to replace the whole control arm, it's just easier. If you do the poly bushings get ready for a LONG installation. We have all the proper tools at our shop and it still takes 10-15hrs in most cases.

Down side to poly bushings:
Can be noisy
Will get very hard in cold climates
Ride will be a bit more harsh

I rec. something like Mugen's rubber kits.
