Several months ago my "Add Coolant" light came on when I started my 1999 Grand Am SE . After adding just a bit of coolant, the problem seemed fixed. A couple weeks ago, the same thing happened. This morning it happened for a 3rd time. But when I started my car to come home, the light didn't come on again. But when I got home, All the lights on the back of my car stayed on.(Including the brake light) Even with the light switch off & the keys out of the ignition. So I popped the trunk & shut it again & all the lights went off. Anybody have any idea what's going on? The car has less than 37,000 miles on it.

low coolant with 99' GA's is a common problem. it comes on when the engine is cold? this is because when it heats up it expands showing a high level then when it cools down the level drops. If you keep loosing coolant search this forum for "loosing coolant" there are several posts covering this.
AS for the lights , when the car is locked with the keychain the lights flash, both front and rear. it should honk the horn too when locked with keychain powerlock, unless that parts turned off. Good Luck

If your brake lights are staying lit after the car is turned off, it may be you brake light control switch, located right behind the brake pedal, it may be malfuncitoning. when you closed the trunk you may have knock the switch loose if it was stuck...

Mine doesn't have a keychain powerlock. Do you think the coolant light coming on & the back lights staying on could be related? The temperature gauge doesn't indicate that my car is getting hotter than it should. And the coolant level is only just a bit low when I check it.

They are related, both electrical trouble. Sometimes a short somewhere can do weird things. Do you have any aftermarket things like amps or radios? If they werent install correctly they sure as hell cause electrical problems. This is a tricky one I'm sure. Keep checkin back and keep us posted. \,,/
