87 Headlight motor question

Had to replace the headlight assembly for passenger side of an 87 model. Now, the replaced headlight motor is out of synch with the other side and won't fully lower or raise itself. It goes through a full cycle but ends in the wrong position. It appears to be assembled identical to the other light. Is there a trick to adjusting the motor position so it will be back in synch?
