99 explorer ABS light, I have codes

I have a 1999 ford explorer. When I had the codes pulled for my abs light, there was four different codes. The two front sensors, the back sensor, and the G-switch. The codes are as follows C1150, C1145, C1230, C1102. What could this be?

First time I've heard of someone getting a g switch code. Its a guess, but I don't think all three abs sensors had real problems at the same time.
So I suspect the g switch set the code. Perhaps the g switch told the system you hit something but the abs sensors kept moving, so the system got flumoxed up and set the codes.
You could go out and hit something hard and see if the g switch works, so the airbags go off, or you could get a second opinion.
Maybe way2old has some reference materials to help you with, but I'd guess if the g switch is setting a code it will need to be replaced.

See if this helps. Try to resolve the code for the switch first. The switch is located on the frame on the drivers side. It is located behind the fuel filter. There are 2 nuts on the outside of the frame that hold it on.
F8 CHECK G-SWITCH, DEFAULT G-SWITCH POSITION
Place the G-switch on a level surface.
NOTE: The G-switch must be in the same position it would be in the vehicle.
Measure the resistance between G-switch Pin 1, and Pin 3; and between G-switch Pin 1, and Pin 2 (component side).
(pin 2 is the center, pin 1 is the bottom of the switch as it sits on vehicle, pin 3 is the top of the switch as it sits on vehicle.)
Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to F9.
No
INSTALL a new G-switch; REFER to Switch—G. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
F9 CHECK G-SWITCH, FRONT OF G-SWITCH RAISED 38.0 MM (1.5 IN)
NOTE: The arrow on the G-switch points toward the front.
Raise the front of the G-switch 38.0mm (1.5 in).
Measure the resistance between G-switch Pin 1, and Pin 3 (component side).
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
GO to F10.
No
INSTALL a new G-switch; REFER to Switch—G. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
F10 CHECK G-SWITCH, REAR OF G-SWITCH RAISED 25.4 MM (1 IN)
Raise the rear of the G-switch 25.4mm (1in).
Measure the resistance between G-switch Pin 2, and Pin 1 (component side).
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new anti-lock brake control module; REFER to Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module. REPEAT the self-test.
No
INSTALL a new G-switch; REFER to Switch—G. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
F8 CHECK G-SWITCH, DEFAULT G-SWITCH POSITION

That is just the test for the switch exploded99. there is 20 pages of wiring tests. That easiest the easiest to post. :rolleyes: :biggrin:

Granted I am assuming the wires are good. I guess in my experience you get a code that refers to the circuit itself if its wires or a complete failure of the sensor - ie - here we'd get a "g switch circuit bad" code.
I am going to have to get me one of those shop manuals. The info in there is amazing.
Got any awd transfer cases around your shop I can have for a bottle of scotch? My 99 is having its own issues. If you are close to Denver I can drive over to pick it up.

As long as it is from the same model, year and trans, all should be OK. We swap ABS controllers from wrecks constantly.
