rough shifting in 4low

hey i dont know too much about 4wheeling, but i was test driving this 4runner and when i had it in 4low on concrete... it would shift from 1st gear to 2nd with a big jerk... is this normal? besides that when its in 2H it works fine, and could i get some suggestions of the best way to put it in 4H/4L and back into 2H etc with the 98' Limited series... its a little different then the SR5, any and all feedback would be much appreciated...
