car dieing

im having a problem with my 2000 ford taurus dieing. everytime i start it it will just die on me unless i rev it up a bit while starting but once i let off the gas it will just die again. it will drive as long as i keep it reved up but once i let off it will die. anyone have any ideas on what it could be? thanks

Try ur TPS (Throttle Positioning Sensor) might be bad or ur throttle cable. Friend had same problem with his Caravan.

Have you removed the air intake hose where it connects to the throttle plate and inspected it for carbon? You might have so much carbon at the throttle plate that when you let off the throttle, the carbon buildup chokes the air off, causing the engine to die. Of course for this to be the case, the idle air passage would also have to be carboned up and/or the idle air control servo is not working.

I'd suggest you start by cleaning the throttle body around the throttle plate. You'll need throttle body cleaner that is safe for the coating Ford puts on the intake. While you're at it, remove the idle air control servo clean the valve part of it. Also spray the idle air bypass passages and make sure they are open.
