99 S-10 takes some time to start

About 1/3 of my attempts at starting my truck are unsuccessful on the furst turn of the key. If it doesn't start on the first turn it will inevitably require about 10-20 turns in order to start. When it does not start the truck makes no noise when the key is turned completely (there is no audible "cranking"). After having my local mechanic check the ignition system they informed me the battery was the only component that didn't pass the testing and it was replaced. The problem persisted. They have tried a number of remedies, each of which has failed to stop the problem.

The truck is a 1999 Chevy S-10 Shortbed 4-Cyl. 2.2 Liter Automatic

when you say no audible "cranking" you mean turn the key and nothing? no click or anything right? what all did your mechanic check?

Yes, I mean when I turn the key completely I get nothing. The radio, a/c, etc turn off until the key is returned to the previous position.

The mechanic checked the battery, battery posts (?), alternator, starter. According to the mechanic they tested the entire ignition system and other than the battery being low (which was replaced) they couldn't find anything wrong. They suggested I have my kill switch on my alarm disconnected which I did have done.

Still having the same problem.

Thanks for any help...

good possibilty your ignition switch has a bad connection or is just plain shot kind of a pain to change one out and expensive if you get one from a dealer that matches your original key. try calling around to a few junk yards and see if they have an S-10 with switch and door locks to save the hassle of using two keys
