Check engine Light query

I have a 94 concours that runs fine for the 1st fifteen or twenty minutes then the dreaded light comes on. she wont shift from passing gear into overdrive, this only occurs after the check engine light comes on. the wipers wont go into interm either, wipers wont shut off until the vehicle is turned off. Both problems started within a day of each other, looking for possible solutions and wondering if they could be connected to one another. Thanks in advance.
