i was hoping that maybe you guys could help me out with my car. i have a 96 rs with the 3.8 and the four speed. well on to the problem... when i drive it normal it is fine and dandy, but when i punch it in first gear it will sort of bog a couple of times like if its at 2 rpm it will drop to 1.9 then go on back to normal. it will do this a couple of times. then it hits second gear and sometimes does it but not all the time. Also when im driving normal at 55 and i push down the gas (not enough to drop a gear) it will thump in the back twice then go on its merry way and is fine. any ideas on what it could be?

thanks in advance
brady

I'd say flat out fuel problem (clogged filter?).

And leave the side option of an ignition issue, but I'd be checking fuel delivery out first.

I agree with wright on that fuel delivery, and since it is in the shop anyway, an additional $12 for a filter, and $20-40 for labor (if you didn't want to do it yourself), so as to take care of the potential problem while it is down for service is the way to go.
the mid-late 90s 3.8l was susseptable to coils going due to age/mileage/heat issues.

post back if problem still persists.

i have a 96 3.8 and it was doing the same thing. Turned out to be a combination of the coils and fuel pump (they actually put the 95 fuel pump in mine).... but i shouldn't talk so fast cuz it is acting up again.... i have a bad feeling it is the injectors

yeah i had them check the fuel filter and they said it was restricted so i had them replace it. the 55-60 mph thing is gone and the first gear thing did it the first time i punched it but the second time i did it it bogged a lot less so i dont think that fixed it, but ill check the coils and everything, thanks for you help!!!

Check the plugs, they're probably white as ghosts from running lean.

AcDelco

I try and run as many delco parts as possible when it comes to anything engine mgmt. related.

Thing is they (Ac) knew the the engines were designed to run HOT. Alot of others didnt' take this into concideration, hence why you buy a 'el cheapo ICM and it practically melts a few months later.

neh, cause and effect. The fuel filter was clogged causing it to run lean and thus with the plugs firing normally without much to ignite they'll burn themselves up.

simple internal combustion engine problem.

Now, if it were to have persisted further then I would have started heading that route.
