axle problem

hello all,

I'm a newbie here and need some help. I have a 91 Caravan with a recent engine replacement. The driver side axle has broken off 4 times now. I have moved the engine as far to the driver side as allowed by the front bottom engine mount. The engine does seem to rotate slightly rearward on the driver side. I've checked the right and front engine mounts and they are just fine.

Also, the shifter doesn't get into the L gear, only D and 2.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I've searched the archive but came up empty, may be I didn't search it correctly.

Thanks, Paul

If I understand my Haynes manual correctly, you have to loosen all the mounts to shift the engine not just the front one at the front bottom. It sounds like you are putting the engine at an angle and that may be what is breaking the axle.

Also, whenever you move the engine/transaxle, you have to adjust the shifter cable. This is again what the book says, not personal experience.

My suggestion would be to get a Haynes or Chilton, read it carefully and follow it to the letter. Then you should be all right.

Good Luck!
