i own a 97 lumina and have recently gotten a check engine light. i got the error code read at autozone and they said something like 1860, transmission part, 4x4 switch. my only thoughts on this matter are that it may be the traction control. any other ideas? it may be a misread error code also i believe. if it is the traction control, how bad is it for the transmission to drive on it daily, highway miles only

to be 100% sure clear the codes by disconnecting the battery then depressing the brake pedal 3 times to the floor then reconnect battery and see if it code again,,If so do you have a traction control switch,,,be sure it is off,,this is ussually a sensor in the hub area and what it does is when one side starts to spin it locks the differential and enables more traction to the other side of the car,,it is obviuos that you dont have 4x4 lol but it shouldnt do any damage but it may be an error ,,the fix is a traction sensor.

yea i know it isnt four wheel, but a four wheel chevy would be sweet! anyways, ill try re-flashing the comp and see what happens next. this chevy has 127,000 also, anything you guys think i should do to keep it running for another 40,000?

just make sure you keep good oil in it and change it every 2500 miles,,,use 20/50 valvoline in the summer and 10/40 valvoline in the winter,,as the mileage gets up there the tolerances on the bearings get greater and you need to use a heavier oil to take up the clearences,,alot of people think that 10/30 on a 150k engine is alright when actually they are killing the engine it needs a heavier oil when the mileage gets high,,,good luck!!
