A/C problems

I have a 1999 cav. my problem is, when the car is idling the compressor makes noise like it is working really hard, and when it kicks on, it really pulls the Eng. Rpm’s down. Also while idling it blows worm air, but when driving the a/c is cold. I’m thinking I have a bad compressor but not sure. Suggestions please. Thank you.
