Raise the Redline for a 420A

I've got cams, springs, retainers, lifters, and forged rods... I want to raise the redline to something between 8000 and 9000 RPMs. What piggyback ECU could I use to accomplish this in a '98 Eclipse RS (420A)? I really don't want to pay for a standalone... Thanks!

Why do you want to do that? You're only going to mess up your engine. It's not really built to run that high. Unless you rebuild the whole engine. Bottom up. I don't know what allows you to raise the redline, but I would not suggest it. My 2 cents

Are all those valve-train parts performace parts? did you replace the springs? If so, your fine. no need to build the bottem untell you reach the physical limits of your block.

I'm replacing the rods because the incrased heat could easily allow the stock rods to stretch or deform in some way... not a good scenario. I did forget to mention the bearings, which I have as well. The cams I have will move the peak power to a little before 8000 RPMs. They are a custom grind from Crower that my friend with a '97 2nd Gen GS had made... Unfortunately I can't find any piggyback ecu that can raise the redline for a '98... only the '97 (which has the EPROM ECU). There's got to be something out there!

I'm still researching, and it's not looking promising... I think I can reach 110mph in 3rd if I could rev to 9000 RPM... This would be very beneficial in a 1/4 mile since I'm getting about 105 right now.

so its running and everything now? did you end up with a turbo or a supercharger? i dont know of any piggyback that can raise the rpm limit since the rpm signal is used for so much by the computer you cant really screw with it going into the computewr (which is what a piggyback does) you probably need to get a different ecu.

You can do a lot with upgraded pistons and rods...there is a 4g63 block on E-Bay by SBR with a redline set to 9200 RPM, though they said it could just as easily be 10,000:

Didn't do a lot to answer the thread, but just something interesting I thought I'd post.

umm to my understanding only 95 turbos had eprom ecus for 2gs. Not aware of ANY NT's with an eprom.

As for the 97 420A having an EPROM ECU, that was a guess on my part. I can't figure out why they only make decent upgrades for the '97 ECU. I'm going to reserch a little more.

1stGenRocks, yes it's running... unfortunately there's no forced induction yet. I had a turbo and manifold, and then my garage got broken into. I had the supercharger, but sold it on ebay for about a $400 profit when I saw what they were going for. So for now I'm thinking about just doing things backwords and bullet proofing the drive train and internals before I do anything more than nitrous. ...It'll be a couple years, but the plan is to both SC and TC. (More for show purpose than go.) Thanks for reading my posts though!
