Shock problems

In May of this year, I noticed that the ride on my 99 Tahoe was starting
to get rough (110,000 miles). After careful research on this forum, I purchased some Monroe reflex shocks. I installed them myself, considering it is a straightforward install. The performance I received from these shocks was horrible! My truck was bouncing all over the road when I hit a bump. It was like the shocks were not absorbing the bumps at all! In fact, it was worst than the factory worn shocks! So I searched this and other forums, and some people talked positive about Bilstein shocks. So I purchased some of these shocks and to my surprise, they were the same way! So now I'm thinking that
it's not the shocks, it's the truck. Is there anything else I can do
to get a comfortable ride?

What size tires? if you have low profile then it will be a bit harsh. More air, more cushion. Check springs and leafs. see If leafs are separating, you need to get it on a lift to relieve pressure and check. Make sure tire tread wear is even and not too worn down. Make sure all tires have equal PSI.

If ride is sloppy on turns, check idler and pitman arms. A local Firestone can have this stuff checked for free and get you a quote.

also if 4x4, make sure its not engaged.

It's probably the shocks. You probably have torsion bars in front. Unless you've been carring loads alot, your springs are probably OK.

I put Edlebrock Performance shocks in my 98' Burb at about 95K and they made a big differance. They have a lifetime guarantee.

I'm considering larger diameter sway bars to stiffen cornering, but I go off road once in awhile so I may not.

My truck is a 4x4. I have Michelin tires on there which I purchased 4 months ago. They are always rotated and balanced every 4000 miles. I also have my alignment checked every 6000 miles. The tires are properly inflated to 35 psi. Also, they are the factory size tires. Their is 95% tread left on my tires so they are fairly new. On turns the truck drives normal, it's just those bumps are harsh! I feel like there is no damping with any shocks I use! Please help!

Did you buy this rig new? I think in 99' they made some big changes in the suspension. My 98 burb feels kinda like a boat. My 03' Tahoe and 99 Silverado on the other hand feels more like a truck. They are stiffer and handle corners better.

I like the stiffer suspension better. You feel the bumps more, but the cornering is awsome.
