How to disable airbags '98 Trooper

Hello all,

I have 2 Troopers, a 98 and a 99, and am thinking of disabling the airbag system. I know some might say that this is not a good idea, but a friend of mine rear-ended someone at 5mph the other day and fractured her skull and it's got me a little worried (I do wear my seatbelt at all times!). Anyway, this isn't about whether or not its a good idea, but can it be done easily, such as by unhooking a wire harness or something similar? Here's what the manual says for a '99 (is '98 the same?):

Disabling The SRS

Removal
Turn the ignition switch to “LOCK” and remove key.
1. Remove SRS fuse C–21, from left dash side lower
fuse block or disconnect battery.
2. Disconnect yellow 2–pin connector at the base of
steering column.
3. Remove glove box assembly, refer to “Passenger Air
Bag Assembly Replacement” in this manual.
4. Disconnect yellow 2–pin connector behind the glove
box assembly

This is probably correct, but if anyone has any experience doing this or any other input please let me know before i attempt this ;) i don't want it to deploy while I'm working on it.

Also, is this a Generation I or Generation II airbag?
