1996 Dodge Neon won't start how do I remove the starter

Hi, new here

I have a 96 Dodge Neon that won't start.

I am trying to take off the starter but cannot find what is still holding it on any suggestions

1996 starters have 2 bolts an three electrical connections. One bolt, 15mm , I think, is accessable by reaching in front of the engine between the engine and radiator. It has a ground connector. The second bolt is accessable from the opposite direction above the first bolt on the bell housing side. 15mm too. You'll need a deep socket or a 4" extension.

On the starter there are two positive electical connections. One is secured with a nut and the other is a tab connection. Be careful with tighening the positive connection. The bakelite insulation is prone to fracture if you overtorque the nut.

Make sure the positive terminal connector is removed from the battery post.

hey before you go throungh all this I have a simple suggestion to help elimate a problem if its automatic push the gear shifter into park with a little force and hold it there while you turn the key see what happens


this happened with my neon and i had to adjust the shifter cable the starter wont spin unless its in park
