ok ever sence i started driving i have always drivin standard. when my pgt blew up in Cicero on my 2nd to last run, i had to find another car to drive from work and home by the end of the week. long story short i got this 1995 Subaru Impreza L. its the first automatic car i've ever drivin, and its just about gutless. its got a 1.8 4cyl SOHC and a K&N air filter kit on it from the previous owner, and that makes alot of noise around 4,000rpm, but it really doesn't go anywhere. Anyways, what I am getting at is does anyone know a good way to get a good launch on an automatic? not that i'm about to go out and start racing this thing, but i think it would be pretty funny if i could get a jump on someone with it at a red light or something just to be an ass. thanks for any replys.
also, do you think I should go for a motor swap (like one from an RS) or get a turbo for an Impreza and fit it on (I.E. a turbo from Turbokits.com)

Put the shifter in neutral, rev the engine to ~4k, and keep it revved while you move the shifter back into drive. Oh, and don't come here when you need a new transmission.

hold the brake, and VERY SLOWLY push in on the gas but not so much that the car wants to move and jerk forward. you want to take up all the slack so the torque converter is just on the edge of locking(not sure of what the stock stall is) then when you want to go let go of the brake and push the gas almost at the same instant.

wrong section? don't most people launch when their "street racing". so if i wanted to know about launching while street racing, would I put that in the Nascar section? come on, it was a question don't be a dick.
"It's better to remain silent and appear stupid, then to open your mouth and remove all doubt." - I'll leave it at that.

another question... do they make racing clutches for automatics like the ones they do for 4-wheelers? I don't know if you guys already know but just to inform some who don't, a racing clutch on an automatic 4-wheeler (I.E. Polaris) allows it to rev up to a certain R.P.M in drive before it the gear actually kicks in, kinda like putting it in N and dropping it but alot smoother.
