Town & Country will not start

I have a 1996 Town & Country LXI with 134,000 miles. Yesterday, out of the blue, it would not start. When the key is turned, I get a clicking sound. So, I jumped it and got it started. I suspect it is the alternator or starter.

I am not sure it is the altnernator as the lights were bright and did not fade after I jump started it and drove it. However, I replaced the starter and battery at the end of 2003.

Does anyone know how to tell if the problem is the alternator or starter? Also, where is the starter located and can it be changed without having to go to the repair shop? Thank you in advance for any help.

If it started with a jump I would suspect the battery or a loose battery connection. I have seen
batteries go bad in a week or overnite regardless of how old they are. Also find the engine ground and check to make sure it is good. Clean everything and try it again. I doubt that the starter is your problem.

Similar problem, except I did not have to jump start, just had to have it towed home. Now it starts fine, the Battery light came on afterwards while in traffic and extinguished while on the Highway (wife's car) Im going to look at the engine ground connection tonight.

Pull the battery connections and clean them with a toothbrush with a mixture of baking soda and water . After cleaning those get a battery terminal cleaner and make a couple rounds around the terminals and then connect the cables back up , this should give you good connections .

Sorry for the delay, hope you have already corrected your problem, but for others who may be having similar difficulties... I ended with a bad cell in my AC Delco Battery that was less than two years old. The cell was intermittently bad, evidently the lead debris that builds up in the bottom of the battery, or the plate particians were only occasionally causing the cell to short out and cause the no start situation (low voltage).
This was a new problem for me becuase the battery would normally check good at 12.5 volts or more, but I checked it one time when it was hot during a charge and only got 10.2v. So I went to Wal-Mart bought a "N"Ever-Start and all is well.
