AOD transmission problem

The problem that i have is that when i drive the car, the transmission switches way to early and after wont switch at all, i floor it and nothing happens (witch scares me). The transmission obviously slips because if i put i foot on the brake and my foot on the gas it doesnt seem like the transmission is working too hard. I do not drive the car alot, i drive it once a week, i dont beat the car... last time i drove it it was running great and that was a week ago, i dont understand because if the the transmission was starting to fail wouldnt of i felt it or does it just give up? Anyways, any help would be highly appreciated, thanks alot

Check that you TV cable did not get disconnected from the TB or down by the trannny. This will kill an AOD in about 2 minutes.

Sorry im not very handy when it comes to mechanics, what does TV and TB mean.....throtle body something....? I looked for the cable but cant find it, could you explain it to me in lamer terms....thanks

The TV cable is your Throttle Valve cable. The aod runs off of tv pressure. Yes tb = throttle body.

next to your throttle body there will be a few cables one to the inside of the car to the gas one to your cruise control and one to the transmission. look to see if this one has come disconnected. Also pull your dipstick and smell the fluid if it smells burnt or is dark brown instead of redish you may have a burnt up unit but you surely shuold have felt it comming on ,,but I have seen times where a ford transmission is fine and the owner changes fluid and it didnt work afterwards. lol

He would not of felt it coming if the stupid plastic grommets(that are well know to fail) that hold the TV cable let it come disconnected. It will take an AOD out before you ever had a chance.

I forgot to mention something in my post, if i put it in first it works perfectly fine , i can go faster then just in drive.

you guys were absolutely right it is the tv cable, according to my haynes manuel. it looks like a faily easy adjustement, should i do it myself or leave to a pro. Can i drive on it at all or do you recommand not to? Also my auto fluid is still nice and red

Like GTSTAND suggested, it is one of those stupid grommet that fell off for some stupid reason, it is nowhere to be found. So technicaly by just putting an other grommet it should go back to normal? Cauz my haynes manuel says to make sure the plastic block slides freely on notched rod (which it does). I dont understand how that stupid plastic thing could cause my tranny to fail, all it does is hold the cable in place. So if the cable is not totaly straight my tranny will not work properly? An other thing that i dont understand that the manuel tells me to do when adjusting the cable, its to hold the throttle lever firmly against idle stop, on mine i dont need to hold it because it seems like its stock there, maybe its just because the cable is disconnected.

Special thanks to GTSTANG because it was the grommet that failed and I fixed it, costed me 5 dollars and 10 minutes of my time, instead of alot more. Thanks to everybody else that helped
