I need a little help with a check enj light code. I got a P0505 Idle Air Control Motor Curcuit code on a 1999 Dakota with a 5.2 Liter Motor.
Does anyone have a clue what this is?

It's a sensor located on your throttle body, it should be taken out and cleaned of all the carbon. See if that fixes your problem, but be careful to clean it gently or you could damage it. If you still get the error code you might need a new one

Is it hard to get too? Will I need a new gasket? This is my girlfriends truck and I don't have a manual for it.

This is how to clean the IAC

Now for a pic of where it's located. It's the sensor on the far back on the TB, in the pic it's the top black sensor. Also when you remove it clean out the hole of all the carbon too!!

Once you finish cleaning it. Reinstall it!!

Start the truck let it sit for 1min idling, DO NOT TOUCH THE GAS PEDAL!!!

Turn it off now the truck is ready!!

Ok I tried to clean the valve and it did not work. The truck would not run at a idle. I bought a new valve and replaced it and it worked for a few days. The truck left my G/F stranded on Monday and would not run at a idle and the CEL was on with the same code. I took the valve off and got it replaced under warranty. Once it was replaced I took it for a long drive and everything was fine. Now this morning the CEL is back on with the same code P0505 but the truck is running ok for now. She has to drive it to work tonight and I am worried it will strand her again. What else could be causing this valve to go bad like this? Am I looking at a electrical problem? I need help fast. I have to try to fix this at lunch today. If it leaves her stranded I am in hot water with her again.

Did you also clean the hole in the TB where the sensor sits?? Because carbon builds up in there, also check the wire harness and wire to see if anything is damaged.

I don't know what else to say...

I cleaned the hole in the TB and checked the wires for damage. I noticed when I pulled the valve out the plunger was a little over 1 1/8 " long. When I put it in it was under the required length. I adjusted it and cleaned everything and put it back. As soon as I started it it threw the code again. I cleared it and let it run for one minute to reset it. I guess it worked. She made the 30 mile trip to work tonight with no problems. I just hope she makes it home in the morning or I am dead meat. Thanks for the help Dakota00
