A couple of new illustrations...

Been crazy-busy lately, so I haven't posted in a while!
Here are a couple of the illustrations I've done lately, first is for a newspaper piece on Mario Andretti, the second is the Ford GT, from a story on J Mays, the Ford designer.

Wow, great work. Do you use Illustrator? The GT40 (or the newer Ford GT) are right up there with my dream car... the Shelby Cobra. Keep posting these excellent pieces of art. Robo

I don't use illustrator very often unless I need to do a vector drawing. Usually, I start with an ink drawing, scan it in, then colour, using layer upon layer in Photoshop. It's less messy than conventional painting. :)

Cool work... the Porsche and the Bentley are near to a photography... I love both of the GT40!

Roboduck, actually I guess I do use Illustrator... if I'm doing a race car, I do the painted numbers and stickers in Illustrator, then drop it into photoshop.

Wow, truly amazing. great work! If you dont mind me asking, what do you want to do when you grow up? You would make an OUTSTANDING automotive creator for some huge company!

I did this one a couple of years ago, while still experimenting with transparent layers and building up blends to make realistic looking aluminum.

In Photoshop do you create custom brushes? I like the edge effects and was curious about the methods.

Lemorris, I don't use custom brushes or channels at all. I sketch them first in marker, scan it in, then create layers. I primarily use the bucket tool to fill areas of colour, blending using gaussian blur, and the airbrush tool for fine details such as hair - building up depth and texture using multiple layers.

Those are beautiful. Very nice pieces you have there ! Great joB! The Mario Andretti is my favorite. Love the hue's used in that rendering.
