confused?

ok here the deal i've allways hated base model 3kgt because i thought they were slow as hell and had like 145 hp or something like that (i cant remember where i got that from) but i was looking some specs and in two web sites i saw that base and sl models had 222 hp now is this right because if they have 222hp why does every one say theyre so slow ?
one more question whats the top speed on a base model?

I dont have a 3000gt but Im pretty sure that 97+ base models got the 161hp engine, so maybe thats what you are thinking of. The earlier years had the 218hp engines. All of the stealth base models had the 164hp engine. ES and RT had 222hp.

they say there slow cause they weight a decent amount.

most suv's weight like 3k-5,500 lbs how is that not much - it is when ur racing someone in a small import such as a honda,subaru,ect... its alot but thats one reason why they have such amazing handling when you have the awd - i never drove a fwd stealth so i have no idea but i am sure it handles pretty good.

TTs weigh quite a bit more then NA :) But then again we dont have twin turbochargers :icon16:

but yea, to clarity weight issues, base model weighs around 3100 lbs, the SL around 3300lbs, and the vr-4 around 3800lbs. Supras weigh 3600, 300ZXs weigh 3500, 03-04 cobras weigh 3800lbs, other mustangs weigh around 3500 lbs as well as camaros and trans ams, EVOs and WRX's weigh 3300, AWD DSMs weigh 3300, FWD DSMs weigh 3100, most hondas and integras weigh in the 2900, and some of them in the 3,000s. Our cars are not as heavy as everyone presumes them to be.

um, they should be relatively the same. Base weighs less thats the only major diff i know for the 3000. But then again, I own a stealth so i wouldnt know :biggrin:

SUV's are heavy, its just the wrangler thats light, if you look at them, there's not much to them other than the 4x4. The car is a lot shorter than most other cars, and half of it is made out of soft top convertable material that hardly weighs anything.

u guys are way off. these are not real world weight numbers.
my base stealth is regesterd 1420KG's thats 3124 pounds, the other day i took the car onto a car scale and it was with driver and full gas tank 1560kg's thats 3432 punds.

i think the real world weight is called GVWR or gross vehicle weight someting. and many sports cars are well nearing 2 tons for example a pontiac trans am GVWR is 1941kg's or 4280punds TAKE A LOOK (http://photos2.ebizautos.com/794/708931_44.jpg) , i am going to corect hotshot8792 to get it clear that 99-04 mustang gt's GVWR weight is 2036kg thats 4479punds and the new GTO is around the same weight as the mustang.

so compared to many american cars the 3000gt/stealth are not so heavy but still prety heavy compared to a 2200pound honda civic and such. but for a real size sports coupe they dont weigh to much, i still think the rx7 takes the prize concerning power/weight!

1 thing id like to add is generaly a car with a 6cyl block shouldnt be gettin its weight compared with cars that have a complete rear end (with a pumkin)
such as all the V8 Cars that are being compared to our vehics. cause damn - how about u get some weights from cars with relevantly the same engine size like 6cyl. cars - ford cont. -grand am -honda accord - dodge stratus - or intrepid - chevy cav. mitsu eclipse ... ect..... u will find our cars are pretty dominant in weight...

a big thing is when u have cars with more displacement - you tend to have alot more oils coolants yada yada ...
