Ok, well i just got my car back from the gay shop that it was at, and i noticed a rough idle, so i checked the plugs and they were fouled, so i got new ones, put them in, and it idles 10x better(still a little rough, but i can live with it) but after it was idling for about 5 minutes, i sit inside and i noticed the cel light was on, so i turned the car off and restarted it to see if that would make any difference, but its still there. any ideas as to what would cause that, because it just came on when i changed the plugs. also it idle im hearing a few different noises, one sounds like the injectors, should i be able to hear them at all or at least at idle? another sounds like a clicking coming from the power stearing pump or something else in that general area, could that possible be an altenator going out? and the last one is a rattle somewhere on the exhaust side of the engine, possible a loose bolt somewhere, or i guess maybe it could be just my exhaust rattling, but its almost as if cylinder #1 is making the noise but like i said it seems to be running fine but its pretty loud. I dont know, maybe its nothing at all, but i just want to make sure so i dont ruin something

Plugs really dont cause a CEL unless its a misfire. DOesnt soud like one though. Find out what the code is. Either make the CEL flash the code or hook it up to OBD-II scanner. Most places do for free. Autozone, pepboys...

ok two questions, first one is where is the port to hook up the code reader to because i cant find mine and second is how do i get it to flash the code

Turn electrical on, off, on, off, and then on. The CEL will flash a number of times, pause, then flash another set. That is the code. Dont know where the description is. I personally use DSM3D. (That's right, I use my own software)lol. The OBDII port is uner the dash on the right hand side of the steering wheel

Pull the negative battery terminal off for a few minutes. See if that dosn't reset the codes. If it comes back, then I would take it in to have the codes pulled. I just recently changed out my coil pack, wires, and plugs, and I didn't get any CEL's.

Well i went to autozone and got the code pulled and it came up with "misfire in cylinder 4". if there was a misfire in #4 wouldnt the idle be really rough, or at least noticably different than normal? because right now it seems to idle fine at about 1200rpm. if it is misfiring though what could be the cause because i just replaced the plugs and the wires are almost new.

Coil pack going bad? You may or may not notice the misfiring. It all depends. I think normally you would notice it though, not so much at idle but when your getting on it.

I think with misfires you do notice it. Idle will be rough, especially at low rpms. Accerlation would be slow to. Get your coil pack checked out, make sure everything is firing. Also check all your connections going to the coil pack.

the one thing that the 420a has over the 4g63 is it is much easier to get to the coil on the 420. but thanks for the advice and tomorrow im going to try and reset the ecu and see if that gets rid of it and if not ill throw on a new coil pack and some wires and see if that does the trick

Isn't your idle about 5,000 rpm too high? Have you checked your tps lately?

im guessing that you ment 500 rpm to high? well i figured it was a little high, and no i havent checked the tps yet, but thats a good idea, that was one of the first things that i was going to do but didnt get around to it

I just put in a Screamin Demon coil, and am happy with it so far. No real hp gains or anything, maybe a slight improvement in mpg. Cheaper than stock too.

I think they are like $70. I waited and found one on Ebay for $46 used on an SRT-4. Ebay rules all. :iceslolan

I didn't look to see if they made one for a 4g63...I was talking about the one for the 420A that I put in my car. If you go to the eclipse/talon part of the website and go to ignition you should find it.

no 4g63 ignition section on that site, and ive searched everywhere that i can and i cannot for the life of me find anywhere where it says where to buy a coil pack for the 4g63. i guess the only other thing i can think of is to call up autozone tomorrow and see if they have anything there. If anyone knows anywhere else i should check please let me know.

If you are getting neew coils check out this site https://www.rockauto.com/dbphp/mak,MITSUBISHI (under ignition) The cheapest is 75 for a pair! Thats really cheap but it's an off brand so be carful. On the site you can get Bosch for 100 each which would seem a better idea to me.

Lets see, reasons why you could have a misfire.
1)Spark plug fouled
2)No spark to the plug- Either the wire or the coil
3)Not getting fuel or enough fuel to cylinder- Could be Injector problem, fuel rail clogged, wiring to injector shorted so there's no pulse to the injector.
4)Wiring to the coil at the bulk head connector
Those are some of the reasons you could be getting a misfire, i hope it is just the coil though.

Have you pulled the spark plug wire on the 4th cylinder? If you haven't, take a look inside the spark plug well and see if there is a build-up of oil. The o-rings for the spark plug wells have a habit of leaking oil into the well and screwing up the spark transfer to the plug.
I had this problem and it resulted in a rough idle, but I didn't receive a CEL.
