New Job!!

normally i'd post this in the off-topic thread but 90% of the people on here can't read them let alone post in them..

anyways, i got a job at the westin ottawa today as a valet attendant.
this is me in my interview:

"so let me get this straight; you're going to pay me..... to park expensive cars????"

starting pay is about $11/hr CDN plus gratuities (which is included in the valet price) plus tips from the guests.. and right now, the gratuities are adding up to almost $20/hr on top of the $11/hr and then add in tips.

i dont think there was any age limit here but either way it wouldn't matter to me, i'm 21 anyways.. and hit-n-run, i didn't actually say that, but it was going through my head over and over.. its amazing, i say hi to people, take their shit out of their trunk and throw it on a cart for the people inside, then take their money and drive their car into the garage and park it. the gratuities work this way: for anytime parking, its $10. for overnight, its $25. (all CDN) what the westin does is take a percentage of all of the fees charged in a shift and split it up between the people working, but i don't know what the percentage is. after that, you might get a few dollars here and there from the guests as tips..
so all i need to do is work 15-20 hours a week and i'll be earning as much as my friends do working full time! can't wait for that first check to come in!!

damn thats nice most places arounf here valet get paid like 7/hour then tips. one of my friends doing it was making about 200-300 a night

Man, I could hella do that! Oh well, last friday was my last day at one of my jobs, and today was the last day at my other. I start training for Sprint on monday next week!

what are you doing for sprint?

im doing some hurricane repairs for a guy now making 12 a hour and its easy work basically all i do is saw 1x6 and use a nail gun

I make furniture in a shop. Specifically doors and all around mechanical work (assembly of new machines, cutting here and there...) for $8/hr. I can leave or come anytime as long as I do my job in the time period allowed.

I wish I could be a vallet driver, that job is great. Before that I think I will try to get a job in a car wash around here that washes exotics, you get to drive exotics too.

i work at home depot in the garden dept.
it is gay, they gave me the title "horticulture specilist" and im supposed to know everything, oh i train people on the fork lifts and what not also. but the managers dont know what the hell they are doing and i give them lectures regularly but they need me bad right now so they cant fire me yet lol. but i really want them to so it forces me to go to school full time. but i do make $11.30?hr and im getting a raise soon too but its almost not worth it because everyone i talk to is a moron (ask for step by step instr. on how to change the oil in a lawnmower/ illiterate and what not) hey thanks for the vent though now im gonna post this on HangMyselfNextTimeIGoToThatCraptholeForums.com hahaha,

I know most of you guys are still young, (I'm not that old 23) but I'm gonna recommend getting some kind of technical cert, for those of you who can't deal w/ college. I did VoTech for Auto Paint and Body. I was at $14/hr on commission (averaged 80hrs a week).. But all the paint fumes and dust got to me. So.. now I work for Verizon as a Central Office Tech. Making $28.75/hr to remotely babysit COs in the Mid-Atlantic region. Oh and to reply to posts on all the 240SX forums I visit.. :boink:

about the technical skills thats one reason im doin contruction/remodeling. Im going to college so working on the beach and consruction is only until im out of college but the consruction is a good background to have in case i ever lose my white collar job. it gives me something to fall back on in a time of desperation.

yea my friends a valet for harrah's casino. He had to have a drug test though. The good ol' shampoo made him pass. Yes it was a hair test!!!! Hope there's alot of drunks where your at, they tip big. He said he drove a nissan titan (he's truck hick type guy) gave the guy much props on the truck and he tipped him 10 bux and gave him a pack of skoal lol. He was in heaven. Plus you get to drive nice cars too. He said he tore out once in a crossfire.....not my fav car but still wouldnt mind driving one for free. Supposedly there pretty quick.

yea thats what i hear. But the chrysler version isnt to bad from what people say. It's like if you cant afford the mercede's then buy the chrysler one and you'll be just as satisfied.

the guy who backed into my car was driving a titan. he own like 5 nissan dealerships. the titan is just the truck that he leaves down in florida at his second home

yeah we don't get to take cars out at all, its just not a good idea.. when i worked for lexus/toyota/infinity/nissan, i got to do all the joyriding i wanted cause i was driving between 2 dealerships all day.. now, we do get to drive them all but downtown is just too busy to push it.. and yeah we're RIGHT DOWNTOWN 2 blocks from the byward market (main attraction in ottawa) and a stone's throw from the parliament buildings.. we're rated #1 in ottawa right now so we get a lot of high end people.. one guy drives a mustang gt, he tipped someone $80 for going to get his car.. but then again there's lots of people who don't tip at all.. either way, i walked away from yesterday's shift with $25 cash.. today will be busier.. i actually have to get goin but i'll let you guys know more about it another time

What kind of fucker doesn't tip? If you see them again, try to leave a smell behind (a la Seinfeld). If you get a rly tiny tip, do like this guy I saw in a movie, the rich guy gives the valet 50 cents and says "You take care of my car and I'll take care ofyou" and then the valet outs the money in the guys chest pocket and says "why dont u keep the money and buy urself another one of these ugly ass suits!". lol, I wanna get a job as a valet just to say that. :-P

haha thats hilarious but we normally get $2-80.. and the $2 add up.. we split over $170 last night between 4 of us and about $40 of that was change (we have $1 and $2 coins for those south of the border).. one guy tips $5 everytime we get his jag and he's in and out 3 times a day.. so there are some good guests and there are some brutal ones
