I get the SES light from a cold start with heavy acceleration. Also sometimes when hot under heavy load. The O2 sensor looks new but because I cannot read the Diagnostic port would anyone have any Idea what the cause is? I did a tuneup when I got the car and the plugs were fouled and the wires needed changing plus air filter. The problem gradually went away, now its coming back..

read the OB1 how to, you have a 1994 so you should be able to read the codes, you may have obd1.5 and someone else should be able to point you in the correct direction.

There is no simple short two pins solution on a 94 lesabre. There is also no simple scan tool to read codes with. You _HAVE_ to have a Tech 2 or some other very high end scan tool. Don't try shorting pins randomly, it won't work, and you'll likely break something.
On my 94, I had a problem with the ses light coming on under hard acceleration when the engine was cold. I replaced the plugs, wires, and O2 sensor, and the problem went away. Sounds like you pretty much already did this. I did it a while back, and I seem to remember not replacing the O2 sensor at first, and replacing that was what acutally helped.

So when I short the serial data line to ground, how likely is it to fry the ECU?

O.K. Can you tell me how to read the following flash sequence: 1 short, 1 long, 2 shorts. Is this DTC 13 ? Any help greatly appreciated.

I have a 94 Lesabre 3.8V6 I has a 16 pin connector but I think it was pre OBDII. Pins 4,5,8,9 and 16 are populated. Can I read the codes by jumping anything?
Thanks
Thanks

You cannot jump pins to read off this car. I have the same car and had the same problem. Actron finally released a (relatively) affordabe scantool that will link with this car. The Super AutoScanner CP9145. It comes with the OBDII type plug that will plug into the car, and has the odd protocol that links to the 94 LeSabre. AutoZone usually keeps it in stock for about $230 if you need one today. I got mine brand new on eBay for a little less when it first came out. It's served me quite well. There may be another tool on the market now that's a little bit cheaper, but if there is it wouldn't be much less. If you work on the 94 a lot and plan on having it for long, it's a good investment, plus it will work on all newer cars with OBDII, and has all kinds of other stuff like sensor values. Yes, it's expensive, but the dealer charges almost a hundred bucks each time you take it in to read it, so keep that in mind.

Thanks,
That's what I thought. I have an OBD II type reader that I bought for $100, but of course the pin out is different. I wonder whether an adapter cable can be bought , and if I can read it with that. I looked with a scope at pin 9 and I see a continuous stream of data coming out when I turn on the ignition. The car has 160K miles on it, so I dont want to invest alot of money. I thought I might ask a discount auto shop like Strauss how much they would charge to just read it. Some one showed me a GM site once that detailed all the data that came out, It was quite extensive, but I lost the data and the site address. I would like to know if it's standard rs232 type protocol. If so, maybe I can read in the data to my laptop from pin 9 and figure it what codes it's sending.?
