How much would a custom Exotic car cost??

NewyorkKopter

I was just wondering, how much would it cost to custom build a exotic car if it has

-Custom Aluminum Chassis
-Full Racing Suspension
-A regular Ford or Chevy engine
-Custom Designed Carbon Fiber Body
-Custom 7 speed Transmission

thanks

What exotic car has a Ford or Chevy drivetrain?

Whats your definition of an exotic car?

Your question is extremely ambiguous. It could range from $100,000 to well over $1,000,000. Please clarify and restate your question.

Yes, please specify.

If your asking, you cant afford it.

NewyorkKopter
08-06-2005, 09:28 PM
lol tru i definetly cant . but yea as far as the "exotic car" part I mean like a supercar. Something to compete with the likes of the McLaren F1, Ferrari Enzo. Like a homemade supercar. Like make it with after market cross-drilled discs, triple plate clutch, etc. The custom things would be the body, chassis, glass, etc

mike@af
08-06-2005, 09:37 PM
Several hundred thousand...and that doesnt include labor.

G-man422
08-06-2005, 09:38 PM
The engine and Tranny would prolly cost the most, and you would have to buy it from ferrari or sumthin. im guessing it will cost you around half a Mill or so mabe even the whole million.

lamehonda
08-06-2005, 09:41 PM
Or, you could buy a Noble M12.

Who doesn't want a twin-turbo taurus?

yea thats what i was thinking around a million. How much would it be for the aluminum tubular chassis and carbon fiber body?

G-man422

That im not exactly sure about.

lamehonda

I would think that it would cost a fortune to design and build a good exotic that could really compete with a ferrari. It would probably cost about a million just to develop the body. Aerodynamics are so important, and if you screw them up your car will be crap. After spending a million on the body, you won't want to put a Ford engine in it.

To develop a decent new car model takes tens, even hundereds of millions of dollars. And there is a reason aluminum is hardly ever used for frames. It isn't strong enough. Also, you wouldn't build a supercar using a body on frame design, you'd do it carbon fiber unibody.

NewyorkKopter
08-07-2005, 04:48 PM
no i mean like make it without the development work. Just design the body and chassis and make it. Just leave out all the development costs, wind tunnel testing, etc. I would just make it for my use i guess

ec437
08-07-2005, 05:00 PM
Well it wouldn't be able to compete with a mclaren or a ferrari.

NewyorkKopter
08-07-2005, 06:44 PM
lol tru, so around one million

Schister66

Look on google for a car called a Mosler MT900 Photon....that's basically the car you want

In that case, take a brick and put some wheels on it. Ta da.

You could build an "exotic" car for way less than a million. With enough design you could have world class handling, power, and ... maby looks. All for way less than a million.

you want fast? on a budget? you dont need a CF body or aluminum chassis, Fiberglass body on steel tube chassis, a good fule injected chevy 350 or ford 302 (5.0) can be build for under 8k if you want it naturally asperated, more if you are going to boost it. 6speed tranny with custom gear ratio's can be had for around 3-4k, then you have a custom drive shaft for around 5-600 maybe a bit more. Rear end, probably want a LSD can be 1-2k to handle around 500-600hp. then you need suspension, a guy localy wil do custom 4 link clips for 3k. though it would be better to have true independant rear suspension you can add another 2k to the rear end and 1.5k to the custom rear suspension. Your general wishbone suspnension up front can he had from your local junk yard.

that gives you a rolling chassis and body and drive line. now you need all the a dash, steering, guages, seats, excetera....

in the end you put 500hp to the ground with a car that weighs maybe around 2500lbs...with a lot of tweaking and know how....you could build a compeditor for lower end porsche's, cobra's, vetts, even vipers....but to compeat with Mclarin F1's, Enzo's, Carrera GT's, Murchelargos (big SP), dB9's, excetera...expect to spend a few hundred grand just on the materials to build it, then your going to have to pay highly experence engineers to deisgn and test this shit...basically because these european exotic companies have these engineer's on their pay roll you will have to pay them to use their people...and because they are produceing their cars in quantity, and not just one of a kind, in the end you will be better off putting in an order for one rather than trying to build your own....

230mph is nothing to joke about ;)

one problem i have with your post is that if you're building a sports car that can compete with porsches etc, you don't want to be using just any old parts from the junkyard, i'd go custom all the way. also, if you're looking for fun to drive, go manual, if you're looking for true all out performance go with a extremely well tuned automatic, it's a fact that autos can shift faster than manuals, why do you think that mercedes' something has a faster automatic than manual (i can't remember what model of the bat but it's one of the high end ones). also if you want a great engine, get a formula one engine, get it capable to run on pump gas (or with a fuel aditive if you want) and then bore it out and make a stroker kit, just increase the displacement without playing too much with the bore/stroke ratio. the ferrari F50 used a stroked out formula one engine, but because of sound and emissions regulations they had to cut power, not let it rev high enough, and thus the F40 performed better than the F50. anyways i've droned on long enough, if you get the money, i'd suggest putting a lighter engine than a ford or chevy small block, get something like a ferrari, mercedes, koenigsegg (or however you spell it), or whatever engine that make alot of power but are still lightweight, if you want a custom supercar, you get what you pay for, go with cheap parts and it wont be as good as i could.

Manuals have the 100% advantage in everything but high powerd drag racing.

Auto's dont know what type of corner you are going into, or your planned line...you do, you cna decide which gear to have it in, where as you will have to wait for an auto to downshift if you go into a corner half throttle because it upshifted into a higher gear trying to save gas.
on top of this Manuals have a vastly greater power transfer percentile. only a 9-15% loss is what can be expected from most manual cars where as auto's can be as high as 25 even 30%.

CBFryman
08-20-2005, 03:31 PM
PS
why do you think Formula 1, Nascar, and most auto X cars use manual trannies?

beef_bourito
08-21-2005, 12:10 AM
formula 1 uses a manually shifted automatic, there's paddle shifters on the steering thing (i dont want to say wheel because it's not)

CBFryman
08-21-2005, 08:41 AM
its a manual, the clutch is self engaging and the movement of the transmission form gear to gear is automated , it isnt an automatic in the sence of a torque converter and planetary gear set. it is still a "manual" because you are manually selecting gears. They try to savy as much power out of thoes engines as possible...clutches are lighter than torque converters and loose less power, therefore its easier to make weight requirements and you are putting more pwoer to the ground.
Nascars still use your convential 5 speed and foot operated clutches.

Edit:
Though while racing the drivers rarely use the clutch, pulling it out of gear and revmatching is how they shift gears

Thats exactly what i was thinking. Fiberglass body w/ a steel tube chassis to start out with. And I'd put in a Cosworth F1 engine or a Lamborghini V12. Just to get the car moving. thats tru about the engineers, but all in all in comes down to a couple 100 grand?

duplox

Buy a lambo/ferrari and pull the engine? Thats about it. Unless you're extremely lucky and find one that's been wrecked but the engine is still good.

What exotic used a ford/chevy smallblock? Easy, Detomaso Pantera! Used a Ford 351c smallblock v8.

NewyorkKopter
11-06-2005, 08:25 AM
lol no man, just for starters i was gonna put a chevy or ford engine. Then ofcourse upgrade it to a Ferrari or Lamborgihni v12. The car itself wouldn't be in production until i had a serious engine :smokin:

I say go witha F1 style car. Except completely enclosed, kind like a cockpit design. That way aerodynamics are pretty simple. I think the Ford or Chevy could work. Go with a fully built 350 maybe, twin turbo.

It won't be the fastest thing, but it for sure won't be the slowest.

NewyorkKopter
11-10-2005, 03:19 PM
yea thats true. When I get the time and money to make the car, I'm gonna start out small, probably something like a 350 smallblock with twin turbos. The car itself will definetly be a closed cockpit car

A comany in england has recently started pulling B16a's slapping in forged internals and Boosting them via superchargers to 300hp. Using a trans axle and rear mounting the engine they built a tube chassis around it. and no wind screen, they use the basic Honda 5speed transaxle with some upgrading most likely.
It is about 500kg and will scoot to 60mph in 2.0sec if you can shift 1st to 2nd fast enough.
However your not going to go much faster than 150mph w.o a wind screen and body panels for better arodynamics. But when will you be going faster than 150mph? much less just 150mph.
However you could add some fiberglass body panels and a wind screen w/o increassing the mass much, put R-Compound tires on there and turbo charge it instead of supercharging it or even jump to a B18 for some extra power to counderact increassed mass.
The thing is these road buggies only cost 20,000 pounds.
which is about $37,000. But they are production vehicles so you could probably do a single one for less than 60k.
Good Luck.

Thats the Atom, and it does not use a b16, dont talk about shit you dont know about... then we wouldnt have to listen to you at all.

The Ariel Atom, if only it had body panels.

CBFryman

"the engine is lifted from a Honda Civic Type-R"

Sorry i was thinking Type-R so i immediately though B-Series.

Yes the Atom uses the new Type-R engine which comes with a 6-speed (though i dont know if they use the 6-speed) and 200bhp which is boosted to 300.

But a good engine for you to use WOULD be a B18 for its vast aftermarket. There are companies that make B18 blocks capeable of handleing TONS more power than the OEM B18 block. 350hp is an acheivable number while keeping reliability if you use one of thoes blocks + forged internals + boost it.

TSC stop being such a jackass and make kind corrections. Jessus crist.
